DIY Valentine’s Day Gifts – Salt Dough Hearts

This week, the boys and I have been getting ready to celebrate Valentine’s Day by making some home made gifts.

I recently saw a recipe for Salt Dough over on Pinterest and so hopped over to this website to get the details.
You only need three ingredients
Salt (1 cup)
Flour (2 cups)
Boiling Water (1 cup) which you add gradually to the other ingredients and mix until you have a dough.

And then you can make whatever shapes you want, before leaving to dry over night, then baking for 3 hours at 120C, then leaving for another day before painting with acrylic paint.
So here is what we moulded and imprinted πŸ™‚

As mentioned above, these were then left for a day before baking in the oven and then leaving for another day.

I bought these acrylic paints from a local craft shop and decided to paint the hearts in metallic colours, rather than paint them red. I did start off by painting the feet red, but found they looked a bit horror movie :0

And the final painted gifts…

Child’s footprint hearts.
 Hanging heart ornaments.

Miniature heart dish.

Heart tea-light holder.
So what do you think?
Please do share any crafty valentine’s day stuff you’re doing.
